The Board of Trustees

The Board of Trustees is Shelter Cymru’s governing body and holds ultimate responsibility and accountability for the organisation.

Its duty is to act in the interests of the beneficiaries, that is people in housing need who use or benefit from its services, ensuring that all the organisation’s income and assets are applied exclusively for the purpose of the charity as set out in its governing documents.

The Board's focus is on strategic issues. It sets policies, establishes priorities and monitors and evaluates performance. It ensures that the organisation has a clear purpose and direction and a sense of urgency to pursue its mission.

The Board's duty is to safeguard the assets (money, facilities, equipment, human resources, and reputation) and to use them effectively to the benefit of those the charity exists to help.

Whilst day-to-day management of operations is delegated to the Director, the Board retains responsibility for ensuring that the organisation is well managed and operates within agreed policy and the law.
