Commission Us

Shelter Cymru is the leading housing and homelessness organisation in Wales. In order to improve understanding of housing and homelessness issues and contribute to better policy approaches a core part of our work is to provide a high quality research service.

We are committed to producing high standard, policy relevant research, based on robust, innovative and participative approaches. Our independent service also provides organisations with an excellent tool for evaluating the effectiveness of their services.

  • Shelter Cymru has experience of conducting a range of policy relevant studies. The following principles underpin our research and evaluation:
  • Robust methodologies are adopted in order to ensure valid and informative findings. Typical methods include interviews (face-to-face, telephone), focus groups, questionnaires, visual methods, participant observation and secondary data analysis.
  • We use an inclusive approach, involving the study group at all stages of the research. Feedback mechanisms are built into our research approach.
  • Literature reviews are conducted to ensure our research studies are based in the context of key policies and existing research.
  • Research meets ethical standards and recognises the issues involved in conducting studies with vulnerable groups.
  • Shelter Cymru’s approach to research is always independent and objective.
